WHY IT IS DIFFICULT FOR NIGERIAN MUSIC TO APPEAL THE INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE

WHY IT IS DIFFICULT FOR NIGERIAN MUSIC TO APPEAL THE INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE

You will agree with me that some purpose of music in our lives includes entertaining , communicating, and educating people . The fact here is that only a meaningful music serves the purposes listed above.

Nigeria is a big country where being into the music industry is one of the biggest thing right now. A country where you get the through definition of Hustle. Every youth who wants to live big must work hard for it and also, they believe in the saying that "all work no play makes jack a dull boy" .

Therefore, one of the ways they spend their leisure time is either they listen to music or when the hustle pays bigger , they go to clubs and party. Imagine what a party will look like without music being played .

Now what are the type of music being played in such club or party. Is it music that makes you forget your sorrow ? Is it music that makes you think about life ? Is music that inspires you to do something greater ? Is it music that educates you ? Or music that makes you loose your mind and go gaga ?

Yeah, the latter is the best selling , while every other is a counterfeit. This is why all our musicians in Nigeria must dish out something for these hustlers even if meaningless but must make us dance and go gaga. Something like "If you no get money , hide your face ". Everyone in the club becomes excited.

The question now is why do these songs fail to appeal the international market ? Let's get down on the reasons below ;

1. These songs are mostly for hustlers and where do we find them mostly ? Nigeria is one those country that is currently facing some economic hitches. So all the youths are after the money and that process is termed "Hustle" This is why their artistes dish out tracks for the hustlers whom you rarely find in the US, UK and other best selling music countries in the world.

2. These songs are sang mostly in pidgin , which makes these songs be restricted to African countries only and not to the world audience.

3. Most of these songs are meaningless songs which serve only one purpose which is dance. The US and the UK music ain't all about dance , they produce songs with great lyrical contents that you can always relate to life.

4. Most of these songs are all up tempo songs where it is believed in the US that music are best enjoyed when the volume is low.

It's time to stop getting bitter about how no Nigerian has brought home a grammy award . I think we should leave the Grammy awards for their owners and let us face our MAMAs and AFRIMMAs . We do music for ourselves so let us enjoy it and appreciate our selves.

We won't finish these article if we don't give a big shout to those few artists letting us out our local box and putting our music too on world map , Examples are Wizkid, Davido, and the rest who are trynna let them know we also got the Juice and the sauce! May God strengthen them all so that we can win the world stage.
